Work From Home Advice - Have you Thought About Working From Home?

Posted under work from home advice

Are you looking for some work from home advice so you can join the growing number of people who are starting their own successful home businesses? In the current economy so many people are losing their jobs and struggling to make a living that finding a real work at home job has become a job in itself.

If you are searching for a work from home job you need to be careful as there are so many scams on the internet and finding a telecommute job or building your own business is not an easy task. My work from home advice is that it is going to be important to figure out exactly what you want to do before you start searching the internet for legitimate work from home jobs.

If you want to work for an actual employer you need to look on job sites or focus on searching google for the exact type of position you are searching. There are millions of work at home moms and others that think, I am good at typing and clerical work and I can easily find a job typing for an employer. Finding a job doing this is extremely hard to come by. Also, the other area people think about is stuffing envelopes or craft building. Most of those types of jobs are scams. I am not saying you can’t find a legitimate one but for the most part you will find these sites asking you to pay money for something. My work from home advice is to search carefully if you are looking in those areas.

If you are serious about typing from home you need to take it upon yourself and develop your own business. Develop samples of your work and a resume and then market yourself to anyone in your area that you think may be able to outsource some work.

There are other areas that you can consider in a work from home job. Many people who enjoy talking on the phone can become a customer service representative. Companies like, alpineaccess.com, hire customer service reps to work at home.

Once you have decided what you want to do, you can move forward with your research which will take a lot of time and effort. Be careful not to get caught up in filling out surveys for work from home jobs because most of those survey companies will sell your email address to others and you will end up with tons of email offers - mostly from companies looking to make money from you.

If you really want to work at home my work from home advice would be to find something that interests you and start your own home business. This is easier said then done because the majority of people looking for work from home jobs are looking for the quick fix or fast money. Yes, if you do find a job where you can work for someone else you can get a paycheck to generate income and you will start to see money coming in. It is different if you start your own business.

When you start your own business or work for yourself as an independent contractor you will need to have some money to invest. Think about the traditional business, in most cases you would have to purchase inventory and find a site and then spend money on marketing. This can be costly.

If you have a skill to market such as writing you can be an independent contract. One company that hires independent contractors that I myself have worked with is elance.com. Employers post work and then others bid on the work posted. Elance.com places the money in an escrow account so that once the job is completed and all parties are happy with the work the money is paid out to the contracted writer.

How or what can I use to market my website?

Posted under Uncategorized

I have a sports trading card website. We sell various types of sport memorabilia. I've tried google ad words and used sports card forum. Are there any other good sites out there (free would be nice) to market my website or any other strategies that are effective?
here is the site if you need more information:
www.tlbaseballcards.net

You can try local advertising through Signs. Using an inexpensive pair of magnetic signs on your car will get exposure while you drive. If you want to go all out you can get a full color wrap that really turns heads.

Or Try putting the name of the website and a couple of bullet points. You can also use what are called bandit signs (usually against city code but very effective). Check out image32.com.

Any Work From Home Moms Out there?

Posted under Uncategorized

I am a mother or 2 and have been working on a commission based job for 3 years. The company is changing hands and I would LOVE to work from home. Are there any work from home moms out there who could share some pointers with me in search of a reputable company?

I saw this article originally in yahoo news and these are legitimate work at home jobs from reputable companies. I haven't tried any of them as they are customer service jobs and that didn't sound appealing to me but I kept the article as my daughter worked for a company that does customer service for a major credit card company, a major pay to use radio station, and an electric company. I thought she might want to work from home while she was attending college.

Customer Service Jobs
by John Steven Niznik
Work-at-Home Customer Service Jobs on the Rise

According to a 2005 article by the New York Times, work-at-home customer service job opportunities are on the rise in the U.S. (Customer service jobs are also referred to as call center jobs.) The article indicated failed offshoring attempts due to language barriers, as one of the reasons why U.S. companies are now hiring more local representatives (agents) for work-at-home customer service jobs.

By employing work-at-home agents, companies also reduce attrition in customer service jobs while saving money on office rent, utilities and equipment. Consequently, they're relatively eager to employ work-at-home agents and motivated to pass along some of their savings in the form of increased hourly wages.

According to the article, customer service representatives working in traditional call centers generally earn only $8 to $9 per hour, but work-at-home customer service agents generally earn $13 to $14.

The advantages for agents employed in work-at-home customer service jobs are fairly obvious, especially for stay-at-home parents and physically-challenged people who need income. But perhaps a not-so-obvious advantage is that you can sweeten your net pay, if you're eligible to take deductions at tax time for business use of your home.
Landing Work-at-Home Customer Service Jobs

Work-at-home customer service jobs range from general call handling to providing technical support. To land such a job, you'll likely need some to all of the following basic essentials. The list is a summary of requirements excerpted from a few job descriptions and application forms from various sources.

* A modern computer
* At least basic computer skills
* A fast Internet connection, such as a DSL or cable modem
* A recent computer operating system release, such as the latest version of Microsoft Windows
* Recent releases of Internet and email applications, such as Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook
* A phone line dedicated to your home-based call center, with unlimited long-distance dialing
* Good to excellent "people skills" to properly deal with customers
* Education ranging from some high school to a college degree

The hiring company might provide or reimburse you for some of the essential tools of the trade, depending on whether it hires you as an employee or independent contractor. (If hired as an independent contractor, you'll likely have to provide most to all of the essential tools for yourself.) The hiring company might also require you to successfully complete a customer service training course and submit to a background check, drug test or both.

Experience in either a traditional or work-at-home customer support, technical support, help-desk or other type of customer service job might come in handy, but isn't always required. Natch, an updated, polished resume and interviewing skills are good things to have, just as they are when applying for any job.
Finding Work-at-Home Customer Service Jobs

According to the New York Times article, the following companies hire for work-at-home customer service jobs (to some degree and at some point in time). Check the employment sections of their Websites. But they might not list such jobs specifically as "work-at-home customer service jobs". (They'd likely be overwhelmed by job applications from unqualified wannabes if they did.) Consequently, you might have to inquire about or negotiate a work-at-home option. Regardless, make sure that you qualify for the job before applying. The need or desire to work at home is likely not enough by itself.

* American Automobile Association
* Dell
* General Electric
* JetBlue Airways
* Office Depot
* Staples

The move to home-based call centers has also created opportunities for intermediaries. The following staffing firms, job banks and such, are just a few that include or specialize in work-at-home customer service jobs.

* Alpine Access - At this writing, hires for work-at-home customer service jobs only in Arizona, Colorado, Texas and Utah, but will soon add more states. If not currently hiring in your state, they'll file your application for future opportunities.
* CareerBuilder
* National Telecommuting Institute - Nonprofit organization that helps disabled Americans train for and find telecommuting jobs, primarily work-at-home customer service jobs in the private and public sectors. You must prove your disability to land one of the jobs.
* West Corporation - Recruits work-at-home customer service agents through West at Home
* Working Solutions
* Yahoo! HotJobs

Also check other job banks for work-at-home customer service jobs.

Does anyone know of legit telecommute jobs in the U.S.?

Posted under Uncategorized

With gas as it is i am looking for a telecommute job.
Most of the ones i link to are spam or require money. The times are tough and i need to be able to make the money before i can spend it on expensive gas, increasing food costs , etc, etc….
thanks preferably in the texas area

http://www.onlythebasics.net <— has a bunch of companies listed with descriptions and websites that hire people to telecommute. It’s mostly for things like customer service, data entry, transcription, and coding and that sort of thing. It’s free to use the site (you don’t have to sign up or anything) and it’s free to apply to the companies. If they ask you for money to apply then it’s definitely a scam.

Anyone that knows about marketing or advertising I need help?

Posted under Uncategorized

I'm writing an essay about marketing and advertising. I have to explain the differences between populist and elitist strategies in advertising. I'm confident that I have the gist of the two terms however I need sources from the internet. Articles would be great. Does anyone know of a good marketing or advertising strategy/history website? BTW we are not allowed to use Wikipedia. Thank You.

Here's a good start: the Public Relations Society of America:

How many percent of people signing up internet marketing related books n courses really make it ? Why ?

Posted under Uncategorized

Most or all "gurus" tell their rags to riches stories and claim their proven system or books could help you make $$$. However, you later discover that their methods involve buying more products(backend products) and involve endless steps n confusing procedures . Do people fail because they lack patience and persistancy or is it just a DREAM they have been convinced into believing,joining and marketing………. pls advice

Good question and it provides a good discussion, too.

I was pretty skeptical at first about a lot of the eBooks out there, marketing "guru" stories, etc. There really are some great resources and people that have done well online. I'm lucky to have stuck with it for about 3 years now and am doing just fine.

It seems that you have answered part of your own question– it does take persistance, patience, and practice to be successful online (and in many areas of life). Internet/online marketing, for me, has been a continuous and steep learning curve. If you love to learn constantly and are always curious (staying hungry like Steve Jobs recommended in his Stanford address speech) then you'll do just fine.

Here's one of those goofy eBooks that I actually purchased and have read SEVERAL times. It turned out to be a great online marketing resource and I highly recommend it:

Best wishes to you and I hope you live your dream, whatever it may be.

Describe several B2B technologies and applications?

Posted under Uncategorized

Scenario:

Your brother owns a gourmet food company named Grandma's Treats, and he is faced with an interesting decision. He inherited your grandmother's recipe box and adapted the recipes to accommodate his wife's diabetes. You, your friends, and relatives couldn't tell that his creations were low sugar, and word of his delicious baked goods spread throughout the community. Last year, he left his full-time job to produce and sell his creations to the public, caterers, and restaurants. Recently, one of his restaurant chain clients approached him to supply all of their locations. They also suggested that he could attract more customers and operate his business more effectively if he creates a website, advertises, and sells his "treats" on the World Wide Web. You have more business experience than your brother does, so you've offered to help him investigate this opportunity. Starting an e-business, or expanding a current business into the Internet, involves as much planning and risk
as starting or expanding a traditional business. Some of the things that you have to consider include:

The cost of the technology.
The design of the website.
The marketing strategies you will use.
The choices of what to sell and how to sell it over the Internet.
The advantages of online communication with customers and suppliers.
The risks of doing business on the Internet.
You start exploring alternatives and seek the advice of experienced e-business professionals. There is a lot to learn, and you have heard many stories about people who have started e-businesses (or traditional businesses) and end up failing because they did not have or follow a solid plan.
You will strive to understand some of the basic principles of e-business in addition to understanding traditional business strategies so you can make wise choices as you bring your brother's business into the Information Age. The varieties of tasks you will pursue are the development of an e-commerce plan, the exploration of different technologies that are used competitively in e-business, Internet marketing strategies, security, and ethics.

QUESTION:
Describe several B2B technologies and applications, as well as describe several applications or ways B2C can use technology that Grandma's Treats could utilize as part of an e-business strategy. Search the Cybrary and provide at least two research citations that illustrate examples of companies that are utilizing e-business strategies (e.g., B2B, B2C), and discuss how Grandma's Treats could benefit from employing similar strategies.
