Any Work From Home Moms Out there?
Posted under UncategorizedI am a mother or 2 and have been working on a commission based job for 3 years. The company is changing hands and I would LOVE to work from home. Are there any work from home moms out there who could share some pointers with me in search of a reputable company?
I saw this article originally in yahoo news and these are legitimate work at home jobs from reputable companies. I haven't tried any of them as they are customer service jobs and that didn't sound appealing to me but I kept the article as my daughter worked for a company that does customer service for a major credit card company, a major pay to use radio station, and an electric company. I thought she might want to work from home while she was attending college.

Work-at-Home Customer Service Jobs on the Rise
According to a 2005 article by the New York Times, work-at-home customer service job opportunities are on the rise in the U.S. (Customer service jobs are also referred to as call center jobs.) The article indicated failed offshoring attempts due to language barriers, as one of the reasons why U.S. companies are now hiring more local representatives (agents) for work-at-home customer service jobs.
By employing work-at-home agents, companies also reduce attrition in customer service jobs while saving money on office rent, utilities and equipment. Consequently, they're relatively eager to employ work-at-home agents and motivated to pass along some of their savings in the form of increased hourly wages.

According to the article, customer service representatives working in traditional call centers generally earn only $8 to $9 per hour, but work-at-home customer service agents generally earn $13 to $14.
The advantages for agents employed in work-at-home customer service jobs are fairly obvious, especially for stay-at-home parents and physically-challenged people who need income. But perhaps a not-so-obvious advantage is that you can sweeten your net pay, if you're eligible to take deductions at tax time for business use of your home.
Landing Work-at-Home Customer Service Jobs
Work-at-home customer service jobs range from general call handling to providing technical support. To land such a job, you'll likely need some to all of the following basic essentials. The list is a summary of requirements excerpted from a few job descriptions and application forms from various sources.
* A modern computer
* At least basic computer skills
* A fast Internet connection, such as a DSL or cable modem
* A recent computer operating system release, such as the latest version of Microsoft Windows
* Recent releases of Internet and email applications, such as Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook
* A phone line dedicated to your home-based call center, with unlimited long-distance dialing
* Good to excellent "people skills" to properly deal with customers
* Education ranging from some high school to a college degree
The hiring company might provide or reimburse you for some of the essential tools of the trade, depending on whether it hires you as an employee or independent contractor. (If hired as an independent contractor, you'll likely have to provide most to all of the essential tools for yourself.) The hiring company might also require you to successfully complete a customer service training course and submit to a background check, drug test or both.
Experience in either a traditional or work-at-home customer support, technical support, help-desk or other type of customer service job might come in handy, but isn't always required. Natch, an updated, polished resume and interviewing skills are good things to have, just as they are when applying for any job.
Finding Work-at-Home Customer Service Jobs
According to the New York Times article, the following companies hire for work-at-home customer service jobs (to some degree and at some point in time). Check the employment sections of their Websites. But they might not list such jobs specifically as "work-at-home customer service jobs". (They'd likely be overwhelmed by job applications from unqualified wannabes if they did.) Consequently, you might have to inquire about or negotiate a work-at-home option. Regardless, make sure that you qualify for the job before applying. The need or desire to work at home is likely not enough by itself.
* American Automobile Association
* Dell
* General Electric
* JetBlue Airways
* Office Depot
* Staples
The move to home-based call centers has also created opportunities for intermediaries. The following staffing firms, job banks and such, are just a few that include or specialize in work-at-home customer service jobs.
* Alpine Access - At this writing, hires for work-at-home customer service jobs only in Arizona, Colorado, Texas and Utah, but will soon add more states. If not currently hiring in your state, they'll file your application for future opportunities.
* CareerBuilder
* National Telecommuting Institute - Nonprofit organization that helps disabled Americans train for and find telecommuting jobs, primarily work-at-home customer service jobs in the private and public sectors. You must prove your disability to land one of the jobs.
* West Corporation - Recruits work-at-home customer service agents through West at Home
* Working Solutions
* Yahoo! HotJobs

I run a daycare out of my house so I am able to be home with my baby and I make tons of money! I also have a degree in ECE and I am highly trained in the field with over 10 years of experience! I hate the Mom's who have no experience and think that just cause they want to be home they can have a daycare, I believe you should have to be trained and have experience for something so important! I don't know what you are qualified in!

I actually work at home doing medical transcription. I guess it all depends on what you would like to do. If you're a spelling nazi like me, this might be something you'd be interested in. It's easy to learn and the money is actually pretty decent (approx. $18/hour). Not too bad for being able to work in your pajamas all day!!

I’m a stay at home mom of two little girls a 1 year old and a 3 year old. I work about 15-18 hours per week for a National Medical Benefits Company. I have been with the company for 6 months and am now making over $2500 a month! In your first month, depending on how many hours you can work I have seen people make anywhere from $500-$2000. And your income will increase each month because we get paid residual income as well. If I continue on as I am going at the end of the year I will be making $5000 a month. My friend Becky started 2 years before me. She is now making $95,000 a year.
The best part is they have 401(k), direct deposit and a benefits package. In addition, there are no products, no hard selling or pushing, no cold calling and no telemarketing! That was VERY important to me.
I absolutely love working with them and I can't believe I am making what I am making and in so few hours per week. The neat thing is there are other people on your team that you work with so you are never alone. The support is great but I have made wonderful friends as well. I think that’s important too, especially being at home!
I was a bit apprehensive at first because I know a lot of companies are not legit but this company is the number one National Medical Benefits Company in the US. They are a member of the US Chamber of Commerce which is very impressive. Also they were featured in “The New York Times”, “Wall Street Journal” and the “American Medical Review”. Even “60 Minutes” with Morley Safer did a big special on them!
Even more then all this is they are accepted at over 100,000 retailers nation wide. These are fortune 500 companies like Sears, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Wal-mart and more. These companies would never work with a company that was any thing less then reputable. That made me feel very good about working with them knowing they were accepted at the stores I frequent. Also now of course being with them I get the benefits for free and I saved over $150 on my last visit to the dentist! That’s just a beautiful perk! : - )
When I first started I just felt very safe with them…. that and my friend was already making so much money with them! But at this point I feel a sense of security financially that our family has never had before. That plus LOVING what you do? What could be better?
Check them out! Just type in http://www.workathomeplus.net in your web browser.

P.S. If you are looking for a JOB there should be NO cost and I would NEVER pay or encourage anyone to pay money to work FOR someone else. This is a business, an inexpensive home business of your own, where you are your own boss. Of course it does cost some money to start any home business but that does NOT mean you should pay $500 or even $1000 to start a home business. Our start up costs are less then $100 bucks and we get SO much for that. Each month we cover only a very small portion of what it really costs to run our businesses, the company pays the rest for us. Including all of our web sites, training, materials, 401k, direct deposit, medical benefits and more. This company basically makes it possible for you to own your own home business and they foot almost 100% of the bill!!! Without them I never would have been able to afford my own business!
This answer has been chosen as “The Best Answer” on yahoo answers more then 10 times!
